Greetings from Shanghai

May 19, 2009

After 3 airports, over 7000 miles, 12 time zones, and over 14 hours in the air, we have made it to China!  We arrived exactly on time shortly befor 2 pm on Monday afternoon. While all of the flights went smoothly. we did have to have our temperatures taken by a team of guys in white suits and goggles.  They boarded our plane after it landed in Shanghai and digitally scaaned each passenger’s forehead for any signs of a fever. That added about 40 minutes to our journey!

Upon arrival, we were met by our tour guide and bus and headed to our hotel in Shanghai.  It is a huge and busy city with pedestrians, bikes, mopeds, cars, trucks of all sizes all sharing the same streets.  After settling in, we went out for a great, authentic Chinese dinner.  We returned to our hotel aroud 9 pm and crashed!

Tomorrow, we do some sightseeing before heading to our next destination: Suzhou.

Getting to Shanghai–the trek begins!

May 16, 2009

We depart from Pittsburgh International Airport early on Sunday morning. My flight leaves for Chicago and the others depart for Newark an hour later before heading non-stop to Shanghai. Amazingly, our planes arrive within 10 minutes of each other! Our group of fourteen students and faculty will be landing in Shanghai on Monday afternoon to begin our 2 week excursion in China. Stay tuned for our first impressions of China and Shanghai…..

4 days and counting!

There are just 4 days remaining until our group of nursing students and faculty take off for a 2 week trip to China. We are all completing the last-minute arrangements for what will hopefully be a fun and educational adventure!
